Based on the above factors, the design, content, and control flow of our funnel may change. So the design and structure of a funnel to organize an event on such and such date will be different than the structure of a funnel to sell digital products on weight loss techniques. 

Before creating a Sales funnel or investing money in buying some online tools to create a sales funnel, we must analyze our business requirement, otherwise, our investments can go waste and it happens a lot of the time.

A funnel can be created for several purposes. It’s not necessary that every funnel has the sole purpose to sell items online. Some funnels are made to just generate leads. Some funnels are made to improve their branding and presence.

Every page should be designed in such a way so that it compels the reader to take action to go to the next page until they reach the payment page where actual conversion happens. 

Basically a sales funnel is nothing but a set of interconnected pages that plays with the psychology of the prospective buyers. 

The sole purpose of a sales funnel is to convert the visitor into a prospective buyer by the time he/ she reaches the Last page / Payment page.

So when a visitor reaches the landing page and gets interested in the product, he/ she should be redirected to the squeeze / Opt-In page. A squeeze or opt-in page is a page where a visitor leaves an email address/name etc. 

The funnel should facilitate this process by providing an Email collecting pop-up where visitors should leave their credentials to be contacted further via email or phone. This data collected using email marketing softwares and called “LEADS”.

Sometimes we try to enforce the visitor’s email address by providing some free gift, which will be automatically sent to the visitor’s email, once they subscribe. These gifts are like E-book etc and are also called a Lead Magnet.

The whole process works in a funnel-like fashion, that’s why the name SALES FUNNEL. Let’s suppose the initial visitors to the funnel are 10,000. And they come through ads, email or social media posts.

So generally from previous statistics, it is known that 10% out of the initial visitors leave their contact details. 

So we can expect to generate leads of 1000 people. 

After a lead generation, if visitors are interested, they will be taken to the Payment Page where the actual payment is done. Now on this page, 10% of the 1000 people may or may not buy the products. 

So 100 People are expected to buy the products while visiting the funnel page for the first time.

So you can see if there are 10,000 people visiting the funnel page, there is a chance of 100 people to get converted as a buyer for the first time and 900 people leave the funnel giving you their email addresses.

Wait before I go into that, I guess I missed a couple of other points to mention in the funnel setup.

There are a couple of interesting things mentioned by Russel Brunson in his book and also in his world famous online Web application “ Click Funnels”. He introduced the concept of Upsell, Downsell and Order Bump

According to Russel Brunson the sales volume can increase by Upsell. Upsell are additional products which are offered to the buyer once he selects to buy the main products but of higher prices. 

So for example  I am putting an advertisement for my digital product ( e.g. ebook ) which costs $10.99. 

Suppose the most interested visitor at that point in time agrees to buy our product/ service, then before the check out page he will be provided with Upsell products which are higher priced e.g. I can say “ Thanks for choosing this e-book on the weight loss !! Do you also like to add these tutorial sessions on Effective Workout to reduce Weight in 30 days”?

These video tutorial sessions may cost $99.99

The buyers may agree to buy this or else we will take him to a Downsell page where we want to sell him similar products which are less expensive than the original product.

Sometimes at the checkout page while making the purchase we want to add some additional item along with the cart. This is called Order Bump

The concept of Upsell, Downsell and Order Bump drastically change the amount of sales online.

Email Marketing 

Once we collect all the emails of the visitors to our funnel, we keep them as a backup for future correspondence. These emails are the leads or prospective buyers who showed interest in our products and some of them actually bought the product for the first time.

It is said that 97% – 99% of sales happen through email marketing. Rest 1-3% sales happens directly the first time. 

We need to create an email campaign so that an automated email sequence can be sent to all these subscribers on a regular basis. 

On the Main funnel and also in emails we have to mention four different things

  • Product / Service Details
  • Story
  • Benefits
  • Price 
  • Offer

We often realize that stories connect the audience. Especially when it has something to do with your personal life that has pain inside. When we select to sell our product we have to select our niche. There are three macro niches under which most of the products/category fall into

  1. Health
  2. Wealth and 
  3. Relationship

We all have our stories. We all have lost our nearest and dearest at some point of time in our lives. Sometimes health problems happened with ourselves as well which had a significant effect on our career.

We all get excited when we hear stories about “Rags to Riches”. Everybody in this whole world, at some point of time, wanted to be rich and fulfill their financial dreams.

Sometimes we go through rough patches in our relationships. There are problems in marriage, love, relationships, etc.

Second, we have to be very precise and clear about what are the benefits of using the products or services. Testimonials are the best for this. It creates brand value.

Third we need to mention what the actual price of the product / service is.

The best part is the offer section. E.g. If you buy today you will get it at a 95% discount. Not only that you will also get additional free gifts …….the real value of which is $$$ but you will get it for free. 

These types of declarations make the offer irresistible to the buyer and help to convert faster.

There are other ways you can make basic funnels for FREE !! For that, you need to do a little verse with WordPress. WordPress is a web development platform that is used to build websites without writing any code. WordPress supports plugins made in PHP to support various readymade actions.

There are plugins for building Sales Funnels also e.g. Cart Flows etc. Also, you can use some website builder platforms. The one which I use most of the time to create some basic funnel is Webnode.  Webnode is pretty simple to use and it has drag and drop options.

Tools available for email marketing

There are a bunch of tools available for email marketing as well. Two of the most popular ones which are used for sending automated emails are 

  1. Aweber
  2. Mailchimp

These tools are pretty handy to use and most of the Funnel builder tools can be integrated with them easily as they have inbuilt set up which directly works with these tools.

Mailchimp gives a free subscription for upto 2000 subscribers a month.

While setting up an automated email campaign with these tools we need to understand that the email copy has to be really good and we must talk about our products and services, their benefits, and offers. A good email copy can really help to do the conversion.

WEBINARS

Another way to do closing the leads is by using Webinars. There are software tools like WEBINAR JAM, ZOOM, GOOGLE MEET etc which are dedicated to online meetings where we can directly talk to our future buyers and talk about the products / services we are planning to sell and its benefits. We can conduct these meetings on a regular basis. 

Webinars are really a good tool to convert your leads to sales.
