- Farmers Protest started in India from 26th November, 2020 as result to oppose the two main Bills passed by the Indian Government.
- According to these bills, Farmers will directly sell their produce to Large corporations. Previously they were selling to intermediate ” Mandis”.
- Farmers are having the fear of loosing money as this new Bill may repeal the MSP ( minimum support price )
Delhi, the Capital India has witnessed a massive protest by the Farmers. Most of the farmers who have participated in this massive protest hail from Punjab and Hariyana. They are literally living on the street and supporting this protest. Day-by-day the intensity of this protest is increasing. Farmers from other states ( Bihar, maharasthra ) are also showing interest to participate in this protest.
The farmers are protesting against 2 Farm Bills that the Rajya Sabha recently passed: (1) the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and (2) the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020.
The two bills had already cleared the lower house – the Lok Sabha. When they were introduced in the Rajya Sabha, there was ruckus and finally, the Bill was passed through a voice vote.
Looks like, the protest is continuing for indefinite time unless both Indian Govt and Farmers come to a mutual conclusion.
Farmer’s protest is getting bigger and getting attention from all over the world. Public figures like Rihanna and Greta Thunberg also shared their voices in this movement.
