The e-commerce giant Amazon has recently got approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to send its packages to its customers via drones. This is a really big change in the transportation system of Amazon as humans will be replaced by drones.
Amazon Prime Air fleet is the department of Amazon which was responsible for delivering packages through air cargo. It has changed the name to Amazon air which is a separate department and Prime Air, which is solely responsible for delivering packages via drones.
The packages will not be carried by humans anymore. Amazon will execute some trials before full-fledged drones carrying amazon orders. The E-commerce giant has been testing drones to send packages to buyers’ houses from 2013. In 2019 they applied to FAA and got approval recently.
The drones will be smaller in sizes and the packages will not weigh more than 5 lbs. Amazon is not the only company that is taking drone delivery seriously. Alphabet, which is the parent company of Google, is also a player in this market. They have acquired a company “Wing” who will be responsible to deliver the packets using their drones.
